Affectionately referred to as the “House Books” by staff, these binders have been carefully compiled over many years. Containing nearly every street in New Paltz, these records follow ownership and transfer of, and major changes to properties through the use of deeds and newspaper clippings compiled by collection staff and volunteers.

    In 1998 a sister city relationship between New Paltz, NY, and Osa, Japan was established. In April 2005 the towns of Osa, Shingo, Tetta, Tesei, and Niimi were merged together into one political entity called Niimi City.

    In the past 30 years, numerous delegations from both cities have visited each other. This collection features documents, photographs, gifts, and memorabilia from these exchanges.

  • A collection of locally published newspapers including About Town, Guide to Enjoying a Weekend or a Lifetime in New Paltz, The Maroon, New Paltz Times, New Paltz Independent, Blue Stone Press.

    Many of these papers can only be viewed on a microfilm reader in the collection. A small selection of local papers are available through the NYS Historic Newspaper Project.

  • The HHHC is predominantly a document and image-based collection but some artifacts have found their way onto our shelves over the years. We are not taking any donations of artifacts at this time.

  • Historic greeting cards. Themes cover Christmas, New Years, Birthdays, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Easter, 4th of July, presidential birthdays, and Valentines

  • The HHHC maintains an extensive collection of images including photographs of local buildings and businesses, local persons and their families, local events, the surrounding area, and much more.

    This collection includes original prints, negatives, tintypes, and glass plate negatives.
